BEGINNER CLASSES

 Beginner Classes offered at ISHA shows

Learn how you & your trainer can partner together to show

Here are the rules:

 

"Beginner" classes are for riders who have been riding less than 2 years, OR ride exclusively in a lesson program and do not own their own horse. Beginner classes allow, but do not require martingales, snaffles, and single reins. Riders in Beginner classes may cross enter other classes for which they are eligible, but all riders in Beginner classes must meet the criteria set forth in sentence one. Riders in W/T or W/J classes cannot cross enter any W/T/C  or W/J/L classes and riders in W/T/C or W/J/L classes cannot cross enter any W/T or W/J classes.

SHOW RULES

The purpose of a Beginner's class is to offer beginner riders of all ages to gain experience showing horses of all breeds in beginner classes.

Classes are divided into age divisions for all disciplines in Pleasure and Equitation categories.

 

 

 

 

CLASSES

ISHA currently offers the following classes. Additional Beginner classes will be added in the future if warranted.

  • Beginner Pleasure: W/T/C or W/J/L, 13 Yrs & Up

  • Beginner Equitation: W/T/C or W/J/L, 13 Yrs & Up

  • Beginner Pleasure: W/T/C or W/J/L, 12 Yrs & Under

  • Beginner Equitation: W/T/C or W/J/L, 12 Yrs & Under

  • Beginner Pleasure Championship: W/T/C or W/J/L, All Ages, No Qualifications

  • Beginner Equitation Championship: W/T/C or W/J/L, All Ages, No Qualifications

  • Beginner Pleasure: 10 Yrs & Under: W/T or W/J, HELPER REQUIRED

  • Beginner Equitation 10 Yrs & Under: W/T or W/J, HELPER REQUIRED

  • Beginner Pleasure: 11 Yrs & Over, W/T or W/J

  • Beginner Equitation: 11 Yrs & Over, W/T or W/J

  • Beginner Pleasure: 10 & Under, W/T or W/J

  • Beginner Equitation: 10 Yrs English Pleasure, 1st /2nd Gaits

  • Beginner Pleasure Championship: W/T or W/J, All Ages, No Qualifications

  • Beginner Equitation Championship: W/T or W/J, All Ages, No Qualifications

RIDERS

  • All classes are judged on the equitation skills of the rider and his /her ability to control the horse.

  • No hunt, show coats or chaps are allowed.

  • Appropriate footwear with a small heel is mandatory.

  • Headgear: All riders under 19 years of age are required to wear a safety helmet.

  • Gloves and whips are optional.

 

HORSES

  • Horses are shown as if in a lesson: snaffle and running martingales are allowed as well as full bridles. Tie-down martingales are not allowed

  • The saddle must be consistent with the style of riding.

  • Horses used for Beginner classes can be used in Non-Beginner classes.

  • Horses must display good manners and have a quiet disposition.
